Visit 1:

  • Site staff will ask you some basic questions which will include your demographics, Covid-19 vaccine history and medical history to confirm you are eligible for the trial
  • You will be allocated at random to receive one dose of a nationally approved COVID-19 vaccine
  • You cannot request a particular vaccine – a computer will pick (one of two or three) vaccines at random, and you will have an even chance of receiving each vaccine
  • Site staff will collect blood and saliva samples

Over next 7 days:

  • You will complete a short questionnaire once a day, which monitors any symptoms you experience following vaccination via SMS or over the phone if you prefer
  • We will provide a couple of tools to help you measure the symptoms, including a thermometer to measure your temperature, and a paper ruler to measure any areas of redness or swelling at the site of vaccination if they arise

Visits 2-5:

  • Blood and saliva samples will be taken at most of the remaining visits

Between visits:

  • We will continue to send you short SMS questionnaires throughout the study, approximately every 3 months asking you to document any COVID-19 diagnosis throughout the study
  • If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, we ask that you come into the site for an additional visit for an unscheduled blood collection. We would like to collect this as soon as you are well enough to come into the hospital, permitting that you don’t breach any hospital restrictions at the time (for example, persons are currently unable to enter public hospitals until at least 7 days after testing positive).

Which vaccines are being used?

All vaccines used in this trial are authorised for use or emergency use by the TGA or equivalent regulatory authority. The vaccines currently available include:

  • Moderna XBB1.5
  • Pfizer XBB1.5
